Inside this months Mojo exclusive Oasis album news
(Thorsten, 2008/07/02 - 13:36) A few things from this months Mojo Magazine ...
Noel confirmed that Zak has left the band and that former La's drummer Chris Shanrock is taking over. He was offered the job after Alan left, but after Noel got in contact with Zak.
There are five different versions of the album, "There's the cheap digital one, there's the other digital one that's slightly more expensive, there's a physical one in the shops, the there's a deluxe' one that's slightly more expensive, then there's a super deluxe one that has everything on it".
Noel on the new songs ...
Bag It Up - Opening track. Inspired by the Pretty Things' song 'Baron Saturday' which appeared on their 1968 album S.F Sorrow. Noel's gutted as he didn't realise ex-Spice Girl Geri Halliwell released a song of the same name.
Shock of the Lightning - The first single, written by Noel, sung by Liam. Out on September 29. 'Instant and compelling' according to Noel.
I'm Outta Time - Liam-penned, Liam-sung 'lighters-in-the-air, John Lennon moment' according to Noel. First heard being rehearsed by Liam on DBTT studio documentary.
Soldier On - Another Liam number, last track on the album. Liam recorded it with Andy while pissed and band forgot about it until The Coral stumbled across it in Noel's studio and begged them to record it. Noel describes it as 'just one verse and one chorus' and 'a kind of lost-and-found story'. It goes 'a bit dubby' at the end and Noel plays melodica on it.
Two other rumored tracks
Stop The Clocks - Rumoured to be on there, yet to be confirmed.
Get Off Your High Horse (Lady) - Rumoured title, yet to be confirmed.
Glastonbury boss: 'Noel Gallagher can take Jay-Z's diss'
(Thorsten, 2008/06/29 - 20:05) Michael Eavis praises rapper's headline festival appearance
Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis has claimed that he's not worried Noel Gallagher will be offended after being dissed in Jay-Z's intro tape.
However, the organiser warned that last night's (June 28) hip-hop set could be a one-off, as there is only one Jay-Z.
With the show beginning with a video montage that sent up the Oasis guitarist's quote that Jay-Z would have "no fucking chance" at Glastonbury, Eavis said he was not worried the former headliner would be upset because he can take care of himself.
"Jay-Z's intro tape was great, wasn't it?" said Eavis. "Noel can take it, they're tough fellas, aren't they? They used to work on a building site, didn't they? They can handle it. They're good friends of ours though, they've helped us a lot in the past the Gallagher brothers, I'm not going to slag them off.
"It's up to Noel if he wants to criticise the Jay-Z thing. Jay-Z triumphed in the end. Everyone knew all the words, as far back as I could see they knew them, it's incredible. Absolutely amazing."
When asked if Oasis could follow next year as headliners, Eavis joked: "If they like, all sins are forgiven Noel!
"Jay-Z was a good trick this year, wasn't it? It worked really well, it was an unusual thing to do, bring hip hop from the streets of New York to Glastonbury and it be so successful, it was a real triumph," he said.
"He put so much into it, but he was thrilled how it went and his wife Beyonce, she was dancing around. She wasn't tempted to get up onstage? We didn't need it, Jay-Z held it together really well. We got a text from [Coldplay's] Chris Martin saying he watched it all on the website in America, he was really thrilled, he said it was 'absolutely brilliant'."
Eavis added he had been pleased how well the festival goers had taken to the slightly different headline act, after all the speculation that Jay-Z might not go down well with the traditional crowd.
"Jay-Z just worked for us, it could have gone the other way, but the crowd were into it," said Eavis. "They knew all the words, that amazed me, it's very fast street New York poetry, isn't it? It amazed me people knew all the words, and two of those were my grandchildren!
"Jay-Z was probably a one-off, we shall see, we've got lots of opportunities for next year. We've got back the respect, and everyone wants to do it next year. But you can't get another Jay-Z, he's a one off!
Eavis then gave credit for booking the rapper to his daughter Emily, who co-organises the festival.
"Emily is doing very well, she makes some good decisions," he explained. "The Jay-Z thing was her decision, but she got me to do the work on it. She said "Daddy, will you phone?" It went on for ages but we pulled it off in the end."
(Thorsten, 2008/06/24 - 23:10) 'The Shock Of The Lightning' new single out September 29th
'Dig Out Your Soul' new album out October 6th
Oasis are set to return later this year with a new single and their seventh studio album. The single,'The Shock Of The Lightning' is released on September 29th and the album, 'Dig Out Your Soul' follows in October; it is the first new Oasis music since last year's 'Lord Don't Slow Me Down', taken from the on the road film of the same name.
'Dig Out Your Soul' sees Dave Sardy return to the producer's chair following his work on their 2005 album, 'Don't Believe The Truth'. Recorded at Abbey Road and mixed in Los Angeles, all four members once again contribute tracks, but the recording marks a new approach for the band as described by the band's principle songwriter, Noel:
"I wanted to write music that had a groove; not songs that followed that traditional pattern of verse, chorus and middle eight. I wanted a sound that was more hypnotic; more driving. Songs that would draw you in, in a different way. Songs that you would maybe have to connect to - to feel."
The lead single is still unmistakably Oasis, a Noel penned song with Liam's immediately familiar voice to the fore underlining their distinctive brand of finger in the socket rock 'n' roll.
'The Shock Of The Lightning' may well represent the most recognisable Oasis song on the album but, again, the new approach on 'Dig Out Your Soul' was present on this lead track as Noel explains:
"If 'The Shock Of The Lightning' sounds instant and compelling to you, it's because it was written dead fast. And recorded dead fast. 'The Shock of The Lightning' basically is the demo. And it has retained its energy. And there's a lot to be said for that, I think. The first time you record something is always the best."
'Dig Out Your Soul' will be the first album released on the band's own Big Brother label worldwide.
Oasis gear up for release with new record deal
(Thorsten, 2008/06/19 - 20:26) Band's own Big Brother label enters new partnership
Oasis appear to have started moving towards a new record release by signing a three-album deal in partnership with Sony BMG today (June 19).
The group's own Big Brother Recordings will release the band's new albums in a profit share arrangement with the major label, while the band's label will also look after the distribution and marketing of the band's back catalogue in all major markets worldwide.
The group's first album in partnership with Sony BMG is due out later this year.
Oasis have released all of their albums on their own label since the dissolution of Creation Records in the late 1990s, including 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants', 'Heathen Chemistry' and 'Don't Believe The Truth'.
One of Oasis' management team, Alex McKinlay, celebrated the deal, saying: "This is an imaginative and exciting arrangement which will allow Big Brother to team up with the crème of both the independent and major sectors worldwide to build on Oasis' already considerable international success.
"This allows the band to take advantage of all the opportunities presented by the new business models available today as well as remaining totally in control of their own destiny. We are really pleased that Sony BMG have demonstrated the foresight and courage to engage with the band in this way."

Sony opens catalogue to hold Oasis
They have long been accused of looking backwards for inspiration in their music, but Oasis were yesterday hailed as industry innovators as they signed an unusual joint-venture deal with their worldwide record label, Sony BMG.
The band, led by Noel and Liam Gallagher, had been tipped as one of the most likely supergroups to follow in the footsteps of Paul McCartney, Madonna and Radiohead and break from a major label to pursue the new opportunities created by shifting music business revenue models.
Oasis have a large and loyal fan base and much of their income comes from touring and licensing rather than record sales. But instead of signing with a live promoter, as Madonna did, or going it alone to release tracks over the internet, they yesterday signed a partnership deal between Sony and their own Big Brother Recordings.
Sony BMG said the deal was the first of its magnitude and "created a unique structure" whereby Oasis would release their next three albums plus their back catalogue on their own label, but share profits with Sony BMG.
Major labels have been forced to renegotiate the terms on which they deal with their biggest stars in the knowledge that they now have myriad other options that allow them to exert greater control over their rights.
"Oasis are in complete control of their destiny and could have chosen to sign with anyone - or even go it alone - so I am delighted that they have chosen to continue to work with us," said Sony BMG UK chief executive Ged Doherty.
"In addition this new arrangement will empower Big Brother to market and release not only the new albums but also the historic catalogue in many other countries of the world so that they can replicate the unparalleled sales and marketing record they have in the UK."
Alec McKinlay, partner in the band's management company Ignition, said it was "an imaginative and exciting arrangement" that would allow Big Brother the flexibility to partner with the best of the independent and major label operators around the world.
The band's seventh album is due for release this year. The group has sold more than 50m albums worldwide and holds the record for the fastest-selling album in UK chart history, Be Here Now.
The importance of holding on to big-name acts was underscored yesterday when Coldplay, on troubled Terra Firma-owned major label EMI, hit number one in the US album charts with Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. The album is on course to have sold 500,000 in the UK by the end of the week and the title track is set to be number one in the UK singles chart - on download sales alone.

London, Ontario date caps off Oasis Canadian tour
(Thorsten, 2008/06/10 - 08:26) Oasis have added one last date to their fast-selling inaugural Canadian tour. They will play the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario on 9th September. This will be the band's first visit to the city.
(Thorsten, 2008/06/09 - 22:35) The Gallaghers to be honoured next month
Oasis are set to be awarded a Lifetime Achievement award at the forthcoming Silver Clef music awards in London on July 4.
Previous winners of the award include U2 and Paul Weller. The award ceremony will be held in the Park Lane Hilton, and will raise money for music therapy charity Nordoff-Robbins.
Other awards set to be given out at the ceremony include gongs for Best British Band, Best International Act and the Icon Award.
(Thorsten, 2008/05/25 - 11:05) As previously mentioned, Noel and Gem recorded the track 'Echoes Round The Sun' a few months ago with Paul Weller for his new album, 22 Dreams. The track will be available to buy on Monday 26th May (Deutschland-VÖ war am Freitag, 23. Mai).
In the meantime, to whet your appetite, you can watch the video for the track at Paul Weller's official YouTube page.
Oasis say 'Coldplay are trying to beat our record'
(Thorsten, 2008/05/23 - 17:33) The rockers reckon Chris Martin and co. want their first week sales crown
Sources close to Oasis are apparently suggesting that Coldplay are attempting to steal their album sales crown by releasing their forthcoming new album, 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends', on a Thursday.
Oasis released their third album, 'Be Here Now', on a Thursday (August 20) in 1997, and clocked up record 700,000 sales in three days. Coldplay's album will be out on Thursday June 12.
The Sun quotes an anonymous source close to Oasis as saying: "Some people reckon Coldplay have nicked their successful blueprint from 'Be Here Now' to try to break the record."
However, another anonymous source, this time from the Coldplay camp, is quoted as saying: "The band [Coldplay] decided to release the album on a Thursday to bring it in line with the rest of Europe. Oasis was never an influence."
(Thorsten, 2008/05/18 - 20:05) Noel Gallagher claims it will be out in September
Oasis have confirmed that their new album will be out in the autumn.
Although no official date has been set for the release Noel Gallagher told Russell Brand's Radio 2 show last night (May 17) that the band will be releasing their as-yet-untitled-album in September.
The Oasis guitarist refused to be drawn on the exact date, claiming "his manager" would tell him off for messing up the launch by letting the date just slip out.
As previously reported on NME.COM three songs reportedly from the new album were leaked online.
Links to downloads of 'I Wanna Live A Dream (In My Record Machine)', 'Nothin On Me' and Stop The Clocks appeared on messageboards, fansites and YouTube earlier this month.
(Thorsten, 2008/05/15 - 16:08) Oasis man reignites feud as he replaces Zak Starkey
Oasis's Noel Gallagher has reignited his feud with Robbie Williams by stealing his drummer.
Following the departure of Zak Starkey, Gallagher has recruited Chris Sharrock, who used to drum for Williams.
Gallagher famously called Williams a "fat dancer".
A source told The Daily Mirror: "Oasis and Robbie have an ongoing feud. This move is sure to infuriate Robbie. Everyone thinks Chris has had enough of sitting on the picket line and not playing music (Williams is currently in dispute with label EMI). Oasis aren't striking against anyone so at least he'll be getting a bit of action now."
(Thorsten, 2008/05/12 - 10:27) THE curse of the OASIS drummer has struck again.
RINGO STARR's son ZAK STARKEY will not record on any additional tracks on singles from their forthcoming album.
Word from inside the camp is that Zak might never play the pots and pans for the Manc lads again. A source said: "There have been arguments with NOEL GALLAGHER and general disagreements. It looks like the album will be his last involvement with the band."
Bizarre Lord Noel has a reputation for going through drummers like dirty socks.
He binned both TONY McCARROLL and ALAN WHITE when he felt their time had come.
--
Drummer geht!
(Thorsten, 2008/05/07 - 20:15) A number of old Oasis songs have appeared on the internet amidst claims that the band's new album has leaked.
The songs are actually all old demos from previous sessions and well informed fans will have known that these tracks have been in circulation for some time. In fact, most are versions of songs that have already been released.
None of the songs are from sessions for the band's new studio album.
(Thorsten, 2008/05/07 - 05:57) Three songs reportedly for Oasis' next album have leaked online.
Links to downloads of the tracks, ' I Wanna Live A Dream (In My Record Machine)', 'Nothin' On Me' and 'Stop the Clocks' started appearing on messageboards and fansites throughout the day (May 6).
Since then some fans have copied the clips and made them available via sites like Youtube. It appears steps are being taken to remove the demos with several previously working links now dead.
Of the leaked tracks, NME.COM has had a listen to the three songs and here is our initial impression.
'Nothin' On Me'
A relentless crunchy riff from Noel Gallagher and a sneery nasal vocal from Liam characterise this rollocking new Oasis song. It's a meaty return for the band, more Led Zeppelin-inspired than their more subtle recent work, such as 'The Importance Of Being Idle'. "They got nothing on me," Liam repeats, "I don't care what they say - all I want is the truth". A forceful return from the Gallaghers, although lacking the smash'n'grab choruses of some of their other anthems.
'I Wanna Live A Dream (In My Record Machine)'
Opening with a soft tambourine shake cut through by Noel Gallagher's sombre acoustic guitar, Noel sings John Lennon-style vocals on this quieter number. Tambourine and bells rattling in the background throughout give a Doors-esque edge to the affair, with drummer Zak Starkey's glammy stomp pumping in a minute in to add weight to the song. "Take Me, back to the darkness where they sent me," Noel Gallagher sings on this subtle yet uplifting and punchy number. "I want to live the dream" he sings on an uprising chorus, "I want a piece of the world", before weighty piano stabs add to the build. Towards the death a classically understated Noel Gallagher riff brings the song home. Understated yet upliftingly epic, it's a song of fine balance and poise.
'Stop The Clocks' Noel Gallagher is a huge fan of this song, naming their 2006 'Best Of' album after it. Noel sings lead vocals over urgent acoustic strums, while a psychedelic guitar sound effect again adds a Doors-esque element to the intro. Noel cuts in over his own more conventional vocals with an echo-effect voice sample before his bandmates add to the build by adding layered backing vocals. It's a lighters-in-the-air moment for sure, although without the immediacy of a 'Wonderwall' or 'Don't Look Back In Anger'. "Stop the clocks and turn the world around," he sings. "Let your love lay me down…".
"When the night is over there'll be no sound", he continues in a Lee Mavers-esque repetitive croon, before a drumbeat pounds and clatters towards a riffy crescendo, with a sudden twang to finish.
(Thorsten, 2008/05/06 - 21:04) Im Laufe des Tages sind heute mehrere neue Oasis-Songs im Netz aufgetaucht:
Stop the clocks (Studio Version)
Stop the clocks (Live @ Liverpool, Zanzibar, Mai 2003)
I wanna live in a dream in my record machine
They got nothing on me, they got nothing on you
Turn up the sun (Demo)
The meaning of soul (Demo)
Love like a bomb (Demo)
Eyeball tickler (Demo)
A bell will ring (Demo)
Die vor wenigen Monaten veröffentlichte Download-Only-Single "Lord don't slow me down" ist jetzt auch mit Liam's Vocals verfügbar.
Glastonbury chief responds to Noel Gallagher's criticism
(Thorsten, 2008/05/05 - 21:57) Michael Eavis calls Gallagher's comments 'weird'
Glastonbury chief Michael Eavis has hit back at Noel Gallagher's criticism of this year's line-up.
The Oasis guitarist responded to the news that Jay-Z had been booked for the event by claiming that there is no place for hip hop music at Glastonbury.
Eavis responded to Gallagher's remarks, describing them as "weird" and "disappointing".
He told The Sun: "Why did he need to get involved? It was a bit weird, to be honest. He should give someone else a chance. He needn't have said that and I was disappointed he did. He said it's a place for guitar bands - but there are loads of guitar bands playing."
Oasis' Noel Gallagher slams Man City Sven Goran Erikson 'sacking'
(Thorsten, 2008/04/29 - 20:52) Oasis' Noel Gallagher has slammed Manchester City FC owner Thaksin Shinawatra for his apparent plan to sack the club's current manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Gallagher an avid City fan, said that sacking the manager, which Shinawatra is expected to do soon, would be against all the wishes of Manchester City fans.
Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live Gallagher said: "To get rid of him [Eriksson] after the best season I can remember is ridiculous. It can't be for any footballing reasons.
"For a club that's been going nowhere fast for the last 25 years, with a manager who's the best out there bar Jose Mourinho… he turned it around and gave us a bit of style and dignity and grace. He bought some great players. The fans have got pride back in the club… I just think it's beyond a joke.
"We've got a manager who's got style. If the owner thought they could come in and qualify for the Champions League straight away then he's tripping. It'd be like sacking David Moyes at Everton or Martin O'Neill at Aston Villa because they didn't qualify. It takes more than one season.
"Eriksson is a graceful and dignified man. This guy Shinawatra has come in and he seems like a bit of a nutcase. The only thing that will get him off the hook is if he's got Mourinho lined up. Apart from Mourinho Eriksson's the best thing out there.
"I'd be amazed and appalled if I met a City fan who thought getting rid of Eriksson was a good thing. They all love him up there. I'd give him a big kiss and say, 'You know what, you take them to the cleaners.'"
