Oasis slag Hip-Hop, drink with Church?
(Thorsten, 2005/09/30, 10:56 Uhr) The two heads of the Oasis camp have been exuding more 'social commentary' as Noel takes a swing at 'idiotic' modern rappers and Liam is named as the number one drinking partner of Charlotte Church...

Oasis head honcho Noel Gallagher has branded the hip-hop stars of today "idiots". Breakingnews reports, while Gallagher insists he grew up listening to hip-hop because back then it "stood for something," he hates stars like 50 Cent and The Game because today's rap culture is all about being selfish and demeaning women.

"What's masquerading itself as hip-hop-slash-R&B is f*cking horrible,” Noel continued. “These guys will go on the telly going, 'Hey kids, stay in school, don't do drugs,' and then they'll be shooting each other down at the shopping mall.

"The disregard for women, stuff like that, I find it quite sickening. And the clothes they wear, and it's all about 'Me, me, me,' and 'I wanna f**k you up...' Give it a rest you bunch of idiots."

50 Cent and The Game: consider yourselves warned.

In other Oasis news, following Liam's claim that Charlotte Church could “be the new Liam”, the former-voice-of-an-angel-turned-tabloid-fodder has named Liam as her number one choice for a drinking buddy.

Of the six stars Church picked for a fictional drinking session, Liam would also be trading alcohol-fuelled prose with Charlotte's boyfriend and Welsh rugby international Gavin Henson, actor James Nesbitt, comedian Lee Evans and talk-show host Paul O'Grady.

Victoria Beckham also made the list. Which would undoubtedly be a laugh a minute.

Church revealed her list in a website chat with fans designed to promote her new single. One can only speculate they got the in-depth musical discussion out of the way in the first five minutes...

Oasis and Kasabian to team-up
(Thorsten, 2005/09/27, 13:24 Uhr) Night on the booze leads to collaboration plans

Oasis and Kasabian are set to collaborate together – unless they were just drunk when the idea came-up.

The bands, who are currently touring America together, have discussed working on some songs, though Oasis leader Noel Gallagher admitted that might have been the beer talking.

″A lot of things are said in dressing rooms at 4 o'clock in the morning when you're drunk,″ Gallagher told MTV. ″We're talking about doing some stuff with them, but I don't know that anything will come of that.″

However the sobered-up, the guitarist added in the cold light of day he still hoped the two bands would link-up.

″They are more than welcome in my studio, and there's a chance I might be doing some songs," said Gallagher. "I hope it does [happen] - it will be great.″

As previously reported on NME.COM, Kasabian plan to enter the studio on their return from the tour with Oasis, something guitarist Serge Pizzorno says his band are really looking forward to.

"It's nice to just sit in a studio and start crafting and working things out," he explained. "We are so full of ideas – 'difficult second album' has even entered our heads."

Oasis pay tribute to hurricane victims at gig
(Thorsten, 2005/09/13, 22:15 Uhr) The band play their biggest Los Angeles show yet

Oasis paid tribute to victims of Hurricane Katrina last night as they played their biggest ever show in Los Angeles (September 12).

The Manchester outfit were performing for the first time at the city's Hollywood Bowl, when midway into their set, frontman Liam Gallagher paused to pay tribute to one of the locales affected by the tragedy.

"The next one's for the people in New Orleans", he said simply before the group launched into 'Live Forever'.

The band played a 90-minute set including the likes of 'Lyla', 'Champagne Supernova', 'Wonderwall', 'Don't Look Back in Anger' and 'Rock 'N' Roll Star'.

Before the group's second to last song – 'Don't Look Back In Anger' - guitarist Noel Gallagher took time to recognize Oasis reaching the landmark venue after over a decade of playing live the USA.

"It's nice to get here after all the years of fucking about in nightclubs", he laughed before dedicating the cover to "people of Mexican origin".

No romance for Oasis star
(Thorsten, 2005/09/06, 09:31 Uhr)

Sexy Sara ... with lover Noel

NOEL Gallagher confessed his stunning lover Sara McDonald's claims that he is unromantic are true.

And the rock 'n' roll star says Sara criticises him for never wooing her with grand gestures.

"I think I'm really romantic, but my girlfriend insists that I am the most unromantic person of my generation", Noel told Word magazine.

And the Oasis frontman even claims not to celebrate Valentine's Day or buy birthday or Christmas presents for anyone over the age of 12.

Noel added: "I can't work that 'cause I think I'm really, really romantic.

"But when I list the things I do, I'll admit. I don't do anything romantic."

Gorillaz snatch number one from Oasis
(Thorsten, 2005/09/04, 22:37 Uhr) LONDON (Reuters) - A decade after Damon Albarn and Blur went head-to-head with Oasis during the height of Britpop, Albarn's current band Gorillaz has knocked the Mancunian siblings off the top of the UK singles chart.

The Official UK Charts Company said on Sunday "Dare", the new entry from the cartoon four-piece, snatched the top spot from Oasis, pushing their song down to fifth place.

"The Importance of Being Idle" was the second top hit for the one-time bad boy Manchester band from their recent album "Don't Believe The Truth".

The single held the coveted top slot, their eighth number one in Britain, for only one week.

In second spot was "Pon De Replay" by Caribbean-born star Rihanna, while Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Powter was unmoved in third.

Jessica Simpson was a new entry at four with "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" while former Blue singer Simon Webbe was down two places at six.

U.S. hip-hop act Black Eyed Peas, which debuted at number six last week with "Don't Lie", saw their newest song slide one place.

At eight was a new release from singer-songwriter David Grey. His tune "The One I Love" was ahead of another new entry called "Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat) from Les Rythmes Digitales.

Rounding off the top ten was former number one "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt.

Oasis score with new film soundtrack
(Thorsten, 2005/09/01, 21:37 Uhr) A previously unheard OASIS track will be released on October 17 - and could be the last from the band for some time to come.

With Noel Gallagher telling NME.COM last week that the band won't release a new album until at least 2007, possibly even 2010, the band have contributed a brand new song to the soundtrack of the forthcoming football film 'Goal! The Movie' called 'Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders?'.

Written and performed by Noel, insiders who have heard the track revealed: "The song really feels like a classic Noel-fronted track, it's principally acoustic but has got really melodic strings all over it."

The track appears to reference the band's current album 'Don't' Believe The Truth' and the guitarist's contempt for TV news which inspired it, with Noel singing: "Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders?/ Who put the lies in the truth that you sold us/ Lost behind a silver screen are all the things you could have been to us".

"It's a weighty, heart-felt lament from Noel," added the insider, "in a way it sounds like the other side of the coin to 'Whatever' (1994 single), epic but really soulful."

Noel's contribution to 'Goal!' came about after director Danny Cannon visited him while the band were recording in Los Angeles earlier this year. Having agreed to take part, the new track was recorded in London just after the band's short club show tour in May, and was produced by UNKLE.

The soundtrack also features other rare Oasis material, with an unreleased mix of 'Morning Glory' by 'Don't Believe The Truth' producer Dave Sardy which adds an aggressive edge to the track, plus the new UNKLE 'Beachhead' re-recording of 'Cast No Shadow' featuring Noel on vocals. B-side 'Acquiesce' is not slated for the soundtrack album, but features in the film itself.

'Goal!' follows the story of a Mexican illegal immigrant who journeys from Los Angeles to Newcastle hoping to make it as professional footballer, and is released on September 20.

Top of the pops II: Liam and Damon square up again
(Thorsten, 2005/09/01, 09:40 Uhr) Pop music's most bitter chart battle of the Nineties is being replayed this week. Ten years after Blur and Oasis went head to head to claim the Britpop crown in the summer of 1995, the Mancunians are embroiled in a new sales war with Blur front man, Damon Albarn.

Industry sources suggest that Albarn's current band, Gorillaz, is poised to snatch the number one position from Oasis, although it is still too close to call. According to the midweek chart data, which remains a closely guarded industry secret, "Dare", the new release from the Gorillaz is just 300 sales ahead of Oasis's "The Importance of Being Idle".

But this re-heated Britpop party could be gatecrashed by the 17-year-old singing star Rihanna, whose club hit, "Pon De Replay", broke into the charts at number two last week, just behind Oasis. She is outselling the Gallagher brothers, but the gap between the two acts is said to be as little as a dozen copies.

This is a crucial week for the UK singles chart. Two of the biggest retailers, HMV and Virgin, are preparing to launch their new digital download services on Monday. After a decade of steady decline, the singles chart has been revitalised by the emergence of music downloading technology, which has doubled the volume of tracks sold.

It was a different market in 1995. The battle between Blur's "Country House" and Oasis's "Roll With It" marked the opening salvo in a new type of marketing campaign which promoted singles through pre-release radio and cable television promotion.

Blur won the battle that week, outselling Oasis two to one. But it may have had less to do with their stereotypically middle-class, southern fanbase proving more loyal than the northern working-class support of their rivals, than first appeared. Blur's record company, Food, cleverly engineered excitement about the single by moving the release date to coincide with "Roll With It", and offered retailers heavy discounts. This allowed them to sell Blur at £1 cheaper than Oasis, often next to each other in the record stores. Blur also had the advantage of an award-winning video directed by Turner Prize-winning artist Damien Hirst and featuring Keith Allen and Matt Lucas.

In the following years, record companies successfully raised the profile of the number one slot. And as the excitement over Britpop died down, executives sold millions of Spice Girls, Robbie Williams, Boyzone and Westlife records.

But with the hype came a generation of other hits that crashed into the charts at number one only to sink like a stone the following week. Gennaro Castaldo of HMV Stores, said: "Downloading will keep sales up in the two to three weeks that follow release and could make the chart more like that of the 70s and 80s when singles hung around for a lot longer."

At the end of the day Oasis won the war against Blur, even if they lost the battle of August 1995. Their album of that year (What's the Story) Morning Glory outsold Blur's The Great Escape.
