Oasis removed the McFly from the top of the UK singles chart this weekend (August 28) as the 'The Importance Of Being Idle' became Oasis' eighth number one.
The band also had another reason to celebrate as 'Don't Believe The Truth' is the only Oasis album to have ever spawned number one's from it's first two single releases.
The number one release 'Some Might Say' was followed by the much-hyped number two release 'Roll With It' (from '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?'); 'D'You Know What I Mean?' was followed by number two hit 'Stand By Me' (from 'Be Here Now'); 'Go Let It Out' preceded the number four release 'Who Feels Love?' (from 'Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants') and World Cup sobber 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' only made it to number two after the number one success of 'The Hindu Times' (from 'Heathen Chemistry').
The band also look set to make it three in a row with the proposed release of 'Let There Be Love' later this year.

Oasis shot straight to the top of the UK pop charts on Sunday, one of seven new entries to burst into the top 10 this week, according to the Official UK Charts Company.
"The Importance of Being Idle" is the second top hit for the one-time bad boy Manchester band from their recent album "Don't Believe The Truth" following on from the success of "Lyla". It is their eighth number one UK single.
In second spot was "Pon De Replay" by Caribbean-born star Rihanna while Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Powter was unmoved in third place with "Bad Day" staying ahead of "Lay Your Hands", a new entry from former Blue singer Simon Webbe.
Former number one James Blunt was down to fifth with "You're Beautiful" with U.S. hip-hop act Black Eyed Peas debuting in sixth with "Don't Lie".
"Popstars" winners Girls Aloud were new in seventh with "Long Hot Summer", with last week's number one McFly dropping to eighth with "I'll Be OK".
Kaiser Chiefs were another new entry in ninth place with "I Predict A Riot" with "My Doorbell" from The White Stripes debuting in 10th.

Oasis send McFly tumbling
In a week of many 'major' new releases there are seven new entries in the top 10 alone, 12 in the top 20, yet only one in the remainder of the top 40.
Oasis have managed to knock McFly off the top spot and send them tumbling down to 8th.
'Soca-princess' Rihanna somehow managed to move from 7th to 2nd in the midweeks overnight and has stuck there in the final charts with 'Pon De Replay' giving Soca a firm footing in the UK charts.
Whilst he has not been in the charts as long Daniel Powter managed to outperform James Blunt, with Daniel sticking at three in such a busy week, whilst James Blunt fell three places to fifth.
Elsewhere there is congratulations for ex-Blue member Simon Webbe at 4th, but comiserations for Girls Aloud who rank up their lowest new entry to date at 7th.
Outside of the top 10 Freemasons did not manage to get top 10 and enter at 11 and the Crazy Frog not managing to replicate the success of Axel F at 12.
In the album chart Goldfrapp had looked likely to remove James Blunt from the top but 'Supernature' only managed to reach 2nd, whilst Black Cherry re-enters at 39 and Craig David, having beaten Goldfrapp in the singles chart two weeks ago enters at fifth.
The rocker launched his own label, Big Brother, in 2000 and he admits the experience of being an industry boss isn't always great fun.
He tells music industry trade paper Billboard, "The thing about bands these days is everybody wants to be the next Oasis, and that doesn't mean slogging it out around the toilet gigs, it means, 'Give me the cheque, I need to go to the Levi's shop and I need a 1960s Gibson (guitar).'
"It's all about advances these days, and most managers of these new bands are idiots.
"We signed to Creation for 50 grand, and we didn't get any money for about three years. You tell that to a kid these days, and they'll vomit."
Liam Gallagher and long term girlfriend Nicole Appleton are keeping the world guessing over rumours they have married in secret.
The pair were spotted wearing rings on their wedding fingers while they relaxed on a sunshine break in Italy with their four year old son Gene.
The romantic act has made showbiz watchers suspect they tied the knot in secret during their holiday.
But sources close to the couple are refusing to comment on the mounting speculation.
According to midweek sales figures, the Manchester rockers are way ahead of Blue singer Simon Webbe with his debut single 'Lay your dands'.
Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Girls Aloud, White Stripes and Kaiser Chiefs are all set for new entries inside the top 10, but could be challenged by Freemasons and the Rolling Stones.
UK singles midweek top 10:
1. Oasis - The importance of being idle
2. Simon Webbe - Lay your hands
3. James Blunt - You're beautiful
4. Daniel Powter - Bad Day
5. McFly - I'll be okay
6. Black Eyed Peas - Don't lie
7. Rihanna - Pon de replay
8. Girls Aloud - Long hot summer
9. White Stripes - My doorbell
10. Kaiser Chiefs - I predict a riot
In a new interview, Oasis head-honcho Noel Gallagher has confirmed his band won't release any new material until 2007. In fact, he wouldn't be surprised if the next album isn't out until 2010.
Gallagher did, however, confirm that the band will release a new B-sides compilation next year collecting the flip-sides from 'Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants', 'Heathen Chemistry' and 'Don't Believe The Truth'. He also rubbished claims the band are on the verge of releasing a 'Greatest Hits'.
"This is from the horse's mouth. We will only do a 'Best Of' when we split up. The only thing we've got that might be in the pipeline next year will be another B-sides album, all the B-sides from 'Standing...' to this lot," explained Noel to the NME, before taking a pop at his Britpop rivals.
"I never understood the Manics and Blur putting out 'Best Of's - I mean, what the fuck's all that about? It's kind of saying that whatever you're gonna do from there on is not gonna be your best. We'll put out a 'Best Of' when we stop. No 'Best Of' or singles album until it's done and dusted."
He also confirmed that when the band do finally return to the studio, there won't be a huge amount of songwriting needed to be done.
"We'll probably have the rest of [next] year out [after the tour ends] and Liam will write 500 songs, Gem and Andy will write a few and I'll go back to the ones I haven't finished off. We never make plans. We haven't got a record deal now anyway.
"So we're gonna have to find a new record deal that suits us. That's where we're at, and then... we don't like to rush things. 'Be Here Now' was rushed, 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants' was rushed and it's kind of like, 'If it takes five years for the album to come out, I'm not arsed.'
Noel also commented on the man who Liam swore would never play with them again and, at V this weekend, described as a four foot penis: Pete Doherty.
"I think two years ago, if you thought of Pete Doherty, he was kind of untouchable," Noel considers. "Now when you think of Pete Doherty you think of that guy who's always in the background of that picture with Kate Moss... Are you gonna be remembered as Kate Moss' boyfriend or a fucking artist?
"In six months, if he's not put a record out, it's gonna smack of the emperor's new clothes, all of it. My opinion of him hasn't changed. His heart's in the right place but the people he's around are not that good for him.
"I was disappointed [about his no-show supporting Oasis in Southampton] because I convinced Liam to get Babyshambles on because I'd seen them at Brixton and I thought it was amazing. And Liam was going, 'No man, I'm not having any of this shit,' and I was going, 'Fucking trust me man, it's great.'
"We weren't furious, it was like, 'Oh, he's got to do a fashion show,' and it was like, 'Well, if fashion shows mean more to you, good luck to you.' He should change his name really, I think he's living up to his name as Babyshambles..."
I think about it all the time. But because I enjoy time off so much, by the time I've had my time off, it's time to do Oasis again. I always think I'll write the songs on the road, come back and in the six months Oasis are not doing anything, I'll put out a solo album. But because I'm [lazy], it never gets done, and by the time I want to start doing stuff, it's Oasis time."
Zum Soundtrack des Films 'Goal!' von Danny Cannon ('Ich weiß was du letzten Sommer getan hast') steuern Oasis den Song 'Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders' bei.
Noel überlegt: "I think he'll do it before I will. He's got more songs, and he's a lot more driven in that department, because although he's 30-odd, he's only just started writing songs, so he's kind of where I was when I was 21."
It's good to see Pete Doherty turned up - one big cock."

OASIS singer LIAM GALLAGHER has hit out at PETE DOHERTY during the band's set at V FESTIVAL - comparing him to a 4ft inflatable penis.
The band have just finished their headline set at Hylands Park in Chelmsford - their only UK festival appearances in support of their current album 'Don't Believe The Truth'.
During 'Bring It On Down', Liam made a subtle reference to Doherty's well publicised drug troubles, by changing a lyric to You don't care...because you're smoking crack.
However, he was more obvious as soon as the song finished. After asking for the house lights to be put on the audience, Liam spotted an inflatable penis in the audience.
"It's good to see Pete Doherty turned up," he said, "one big cock."
Liam's feud with Pete began when Doherty failed to turn up to an Oasis support in Southampton.
In Chelmsford (August 20), the group played the highlights from their current album 'Don't Belive The Truth', as well as a handful of classics from debut album 'Definitely Maybe'.
Speaking to NME before the gig, guitarist Noel Gallagher said he had mixed feelings about the festival, but the band were up for the gig.
He said: "I've been a few times and only ever seen one good gig – that was The Coral a few years ago. I'm looking forward to it, it's the only festival we're doing in England this year. I think it could be good craic."
Speaking about the band's best ever festival performances, Gallagher admitted that up until now, none of their best sets had been in the UK. He continued: "You can count out all the ones in England. I don't think we've ever pulled it off for some reason. Maybe this time. The thing is, when we're playing festivals abroad, we're usually second on the bill – we never get to headline. Whenever we've headlined Glastonbury by the time we get one everybody's twatted."
The set was:

* 'Turn Up The Sun'
* 'Lyla'

Like many ten year old boys Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) had a dream: to escape Los Angeles and take centre stage in the country where football was born. When Santiago Munez crossed the Mexican border into America he had two things in his possession: his football and a tattered picture of the World Cup.
Kuno Becker stars in the film along with Alessandro Nivola, Anna Friel, Stephen Dillane, Marcel Iures, Sean Pertwee, Cassandra Bell, and Kieran O'Brien. Also featured in the film are some of the biggest names from the world of football including David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Raul and Newcastle United captain Alan Shearer.

Amongst the bands featured on the LP are Jet, The Zutons, The Futureheads, The Coral, Yeti and Secret Machines.
Speaking exclusively to NME, guitarist Noel Gallagher said: "How do we decide out support bands? If we're into them. Simple as that. Liam and me will argue it out."
The CD also includes a storming live version of The Who's classic 'My Generation' played by Oasis.
Gallagher said: "People keep asking us why we're doing it live when we done it on the last tour - well, we've got The Who's drummer (Zac Starkey) on this tour. He plays it properly like Keith Moon. We've kind of made it our own now."

To get your free CD and for an exclusive interview with Noel Gallagher be sure to pick up this week's issue of NME - on sale nationwide now.
In a new interview, Noel Gallagher has delivered his pre-V2005 manifesto, and unsurprisingly, while he may have had bad experiences in the past, he thinks this year might be pretty good,
"The day we're on is fantastic," he explains to NME, "Apart from Maroon 5, every band that's on the bill are friends of ours. There's The Stands, Jet, The Zutons, The La's and us on the same stage. So our backstage area will be great.
"I've been a few times, and only ever seen one good gig – that was The Coral a few years ago. I'm looking forward to it, it's the only festival we're doing in England this year. I think it could be a good crack."
Against popular opinion, Noel confirms he didn't hand-pick the bill entirely ("Well if we did, Maroon 5 wouldn't be on it.") and, while the backstage area may be a haze of cigarette smoke and Northern accents, he's not entirely happy about the infamous V celebrity VIP list,
"I am a bit concerned about the kind of crowd we'll get, it's all East Enders extras and fucking D-list celebrities all there for a day out. Cat Deeley and all that..., It'll be alright, it'll be alright."
In terms of festival advice, Noel keeps it simple ("Plenty of cash, plenty of cigarettes and skins, and a lift home!"), but, unlike his brother, isn't so worried about festival hygiene,
"Fuck it, who wants to stay clean if it's muddy? Fucking join in, have a laugh. It doesn't really matter. (Echo And The Bunnymen frontman) Ian McCulloch's the only type of person who'll walk round in white trousers looking like a lunatic. Even if it's sunny you get dirty anyway, so I'd just go with it man.
"[But] who the fuck wears white parkas anyway? – him [Liam], Ian McCulloch and Paul Weller. He likes his concrete, Liam."
The Oasis mainman also adds some specific advice as to where best to have sex ("Somebody else's tent!") but if it's party you're after, it can only be on The Guv'nors bus...
"You can get 16 people on a tourbus, you can leave at any point, you've got a proper bed, and a fridge, and telly to watch the football. Say no more."
V2005 will take place from August 20-21 at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire.

The singer was no stranger to violent behaviour and street fights in the past, but now that his bad days are behind him he wants to stamp out anti-social behaviour in our communities.
A friend close to Liam told The Daily Star: "He believes in helping other people and being a Labour MP is how he'll do it. He wants to pump cash into the community and start up local youth centres for young people.
"He's absolutely determined to make a difference. As well as harsh penalties for teenage louts he'll also create tough anti-hoody laws.
"You don't mess with Liam. He just can't stand unnecessary violence and is always seething when he reads reports of happy slapping."
Oasis member Noel Gallagher confessed that sometimes doesn't even understand the lyrics from his songs.
"I get the odd night when I'm halfway through Don't Look Back In Anger when I say to myself, 'I still don't know what these words mean!'" Gallagher is quoted by Contactmusic.com as saying.
"I'm thinking, what the ...what the... 'Stand up beside the fireplace'. Why?
"And all these kids will be singing it at the top of their voices with all their
arms around each other and I kind of feel like stopping and going, 'Look, can somebody help me out here? Am I missing something?'"
Noel Gallagher, born May 29, 1967 in Manchester, is the lead songwriter and guitarist with the British rock band Oasis. He is the older brother of Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher and the two are famous for their arguments.
The two brothers combined catchy melodies, wall-of-sound guitar, mod-style fashion and an arrogant swagger to attract the attention of the press in 1994.
The band's behaviour both on and off the stage made them tabloid newspaper staples, with frequent reports of heavy drinking, drug abuse and violent confrontations appearing regularly in the press.
Since the band's rise to prominence, the band's line-up has changed frequently, with the Gallagher brothers remaining the only constant.

Noel Gallagher's plea for help
Noel Gallagher has admitted he was so high on drugs when he wrote most of his hits - that he really doesn't have the foggiest what the fuck they're all about.
The Oasis star says: "I get the odd night when I'm halfway through Don't Look Back In Anger when I say to myself, 'I still don't know what these words mean!'"
"I'm thinking what the...what the... 'stand up beside the fireplace. Why.'"
Femalefirst have revealed that the poor bloke is so perplexed that he's even considering asking his sweaty little teenage fans for some help:
"All these kids will be singing it at the top of their voices with all their arms around each other and I kind of feel like stopping and going, 'Look, can somebody help me out here? Am I missing something?"
--
Gallagher: I have no idea what my songs mean
Oasis star Noel Gallagher was so high on drugs when he created hits including Don't Look Back In Anger, he has absolutely no idea what his lyrics are all about.
The British rocker is tempted to quiz his fans, because they seem to know more about the meanings of his songs than he does.
He says: "I get the odd night when I'm halfway through Don't Look Back In Anger when I say to myself. 'I still don't know what these words mean!'
"I'm thinking what the …what the… 'stand up beside the fireplace'. Why?
"And all these kids will be singing it at the top of their voices with all their arms around each other and I kind of feel like stopping and going, 'Look, can somebody help me out here? Am I missing something?'"

The rock star is being approached by the owners of the Drill Hall in Leith, in a bid to raise £30,000 towards a massive refurbishment project.
It is hoped the singer will also be joined in supporting the Dalmeny Street scheme by other big names on the music and comedy scenes such as Moby, Rob Newman and Mark Thomas.
Politicians and leading figures from Edinburgh's arts world are also to be targeted by an appeal offering them the chance to be "immortalised in the fabric" of the new arts complex.
Members of the public will be able to rub shoulders with famous figures as part of a sponsor-a-brick scheme to help pay for a £1.7 million overhaul of the former Army drill hall.
Gallagher and other celebrities will be asked to put their money and names to the project in the form of a signed brick - which will then be used to build the entrance tunnel to the new building.
Out of the Blue, the arts group behind Edinburgh's long- running Bongo Club, owns the B-listed drill hall.
Gallagher and former flame Patsy Kensit famously turned up at the Bongo Club, after arriving by chauffeur-driven limousine, to see an opera singer perform.
Other stars to be targeted through the appeal, who have either performed at or visited the Bongo Club, include Phil Kay, Johnny Vegas, Stuart Lee, Hazel O'Connor and Irvine Welsh.
A spokesman for the "Click-a-Brick" appeal said: "We're actually hoping to have some VIPs already on board by the time we launch the appeal next month, along with various local dignitaries.
"The appeal is open to anyone and everyone, and people can donate whatever they want as long as it is a minimum of £10."
The money raised will go towards the creation of workshops, rehearsal rooms, exhibition spaces, an arts cafe, a creche and a studio theatre.
The building is already home to more than 50 individuals or organisations involved in the creative industries in Edinburgh.
It is hoped another 30 tenants will be given space once the next phase of the Drill Hall is completed, while the latest refurbishments will offer full public access to the building for the first time.
The complete refurbishment of the building is hoped to be complete in two phases within the next two years, if a further £400,000 can be raised.
Out of the Blue co-ordinator Rob Hoon said: "In tandem with the building work, we're also working on a project which will hopefully see major improvements carried out to Dalmeny Park, which is right next door to the Drill Hall, but is pretty run-down.
"We've already carried out a lot of work with the local community over potential improvements to the park and we've had an exhibition here on what they'd like to see done."

OASIS paid tribute to the Spanish, crackheads and recently deceased UK politician ROBIN COOK during their BENICASSIM FESTIVAL set tonight (August 7).
And earlier in the evening NME.COM grabbed a chat with Noel Gallagher, and found out he didn't mind supporting Kasabian on the Escenario Verde stage.
He said of the festival: "I've never been before, Andy (Bell, bass player)'s been twice. We got our slot changed with Kasabian so we could watch them. This is no word of a fucking lie, we did the same when we were in Portugal two nights earlier and they were on after us. We'd never seen them live before and they fucking blew us away."
He added: "I hate using this yank word but they were fucking awesome."
The band, drawing easily the biggest crowd of the weekend, played a set similar to their recent UK stadium tour, with set closer 'Rock 'N' Roll Star' dedicated to former Labour Party cabinet minister Robin Cook, who died suddenly last week.
Liam Gallagher also dedicated 'Cigarettes And Alcohol' to "the prisoners, alcoholics and crackheads". He also changed the words of 'Bring It On Down', singing "You're the outcast, you're the underclass, but you don't care, because you're smoking crack."
Later in the set Noel dedicated 'Mucky Fingers' to the Spanish, after asking "How many British people are here?" –when he heard the huge response he insisted: "Be nice to the locals."
The set was:
* 'Fuckin' In The Bushes' (intro)
* 'Turn Up The Sun'
* 'Lyla'
* 'Bring It On Down'
* 'Morning Glory'
* 'Cigarettes And Alcohol'
* 'The Importance Of Being Idle'
* 'A Bell Will Ring'
* 'Live Forever'
* 'The Meaning Of Soul'
* 'Mucky Fingers'
* 'Champagne Supernova'
* 'Rock 'N' Roll Star'
Encore:
* 'Wonderwall'

The property, in Great Dunmow, Essex, is owned by Nicole's sister Natalie Appleton and husband Liam Howlett, of dance act The Prodigy.
A source says, "Natalie's very excited about having her sister and Liam moving in with them.
"Liam and Liam get on very well and enjoy going out for pints together."
The move has sparked rumours that the couple are intending to eventually leave the country altogether.
According to an insider, "Liam and Nicole nearly moved to Canada last year. They feel they can walk around there without getting hassled like they do in the UK."
Doherty failed to show up to a recent gig at Southampton where he was due to support them with Babyshambles.
Doherty claimed he was unable to return from France in time after attending fashion designer Hedi Slimane's birthday. Oasis subsequently replaced Babyshambles' for their planned second support slot at Milton Keynes with The Zutons.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Liam said: "That's where the relationship ended. What we're not going to do is give him a second chance.
"It's not a question of professionalism. It's much more simple than that. This is the greatest group in the world and what we're not going to do is let anyone, Pete Doherty, Liam Gallagher or Elvis, fuck it all up."
