Definitely Maybe as The Month celebrates with Oasis
(Thorsten, 2004/08/27, 13:37 Uhr) LONDON - The Sunday Times is celebrating the first birthday of its entertainment CD-Rom The Month by including exclusive footage from the forthcoming anniversary DVD of Oasis's Definitely Maybe.

The Sunday Times became the first newspaper in the world to produce a digital section on CD-Rom when it launched The Month last August. The Month contains movie, music and video game previews. The anniversary edition will feature more than five minutes of footage from Definitely Maybe, including live and televised performance clips and excerpts from an hour-long documentary about the recording of the album, which launched Oasis and became the biggest-selling debut album in Britain when released in 1994. Definitely Maybe, which includes classic tracks 'Cigarettes and Alcohol', 'Supersonic', 'Rock 'n' Roll Star' and 'Shakermaker', was recently named "best British album ever" by Q. The Definitely Maybe DVD will be released on September 5. The Sunday Times hopes the Oasis DVD preview will help it pick up thousands of extra sales, repeating the success of its previous Oasis promotion. The paper achieved its second-highest sale in June 2002, when it gave away a cover-mounted CD containing unreleased songs from the 'Heathen Chemistry' album. Times Online will offer readers the chance to win one of 10 signed, limited-edition copies of the Definitely Maybe track Columbia, which was never released as a single, along with 10 copies of the DVD and a Sony recordable DVD player. The anniversary is being supported by a national television and radio ad campaign and extensive sampling of a special promotional Best of The Month CD-Rom. [...]

97er Interview bei BBC Radio 1
(Thorsten, 2004/08/25, 12:26 Uhr) 'Sit up and listen' moments from the Radio 1 archives - everything from Sex Pistols to Sam Fox

The week's show : 1997 - Noel and Liam Gallagher on the Evening Session

LISTEN TO THE SHOW

We go back to the 23rd of October 1997 and that Oasis interview.

Yes, it's the curse-a-thon that was front page news and prompted The Sun headline '4 Letter Oasis in Radio 1 shocker'.

Noel and Liam had been reclusive during the launch of their 3rd album 'Be Here Now', and hadn't done a major interview together since 1994, but when Noel made a last minute decision to offer Steve Lamacq and the Evening Session an exclusive interview he took everyone by surprise by showing up with Liam.

If you haven't heard the interview before, we must warn you, it's rather spicy with more than a generous helping of swearing and drug references. So if you are easily offended, or a young un, we advise you not to listen.

At times thrilling, at others, to many people, offensive, Steve and his production team do all they can to rein in a band they and their audience want to hear, but who have suddenly sidestepped all the rules of live broadcasting.

It's also worth noting that Liam had offered to punch Lamo's lights out just before they went on air!

Available to listen to until 29.08.04.

Alan Mcgee on Oasis
(Thorsten, 2004/08/24, 13:26 Uhr) THIS BAND WILL LIVE FOREVER .. AND I DON'T MEAN MAYBE

ALAN McGee will never forget the traumatic moment when he realised Oasis were about to go supersonic.

'I was holed up in Glasgow recovering from my drug addiction in the middle of this hugely depressing scenario,' revealed the Scots pop mogul. 'Oasis had just recorded their 1994 debut album, Definitely Maybe for my label, Creation Records. 'They were appearing on The Word - on Channel Four - performing first single, Supersonic.

'I switched on my TV and thought: 'f****** hell we've actually done it'. The camera focused on Liam Gallagher and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was amazing.
'That was probably the highest point I've ever had with Oasis because I was so low personally.' 'It was even greater than discovering them at King Tut's on May 18, 1993. 'I realised I'd fulfilled my dream. I'd found this amazing rock band who would, to date, sell 41 million records worldwide.'

Last week, McGee took a look back at Oasis' turbulent career to coincide with the 10th anniversary of that debut album. McGee reckons Oasis can live forever, saying: 'You ain't seen nothing yet.' Here are his highlights of 10 mad, musical years with Oasis.

best secret

As a songwriter, Noel Gallagher is Oasis' secret weapon. He's an incredible musician.

He wrote Masterplan, which I rate as one of the greatest songs of the last 20 years. Noel is always being slagged off for weak lyrics but listen to the words of this song - they're stunning.

In recent years, Noel has come up with other classic tracks such asGo Let It Out and Stop Crying Your Heart Out.

What Oasis need to do in future is put 10 great songs on a record, not just one or two.

best brother

LIAM has complete and utter self confidence in his ability. He's a nutter, incredibly talented and is an amazing vocalist. He has as much attitude as he has music ability.

For me, there's Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Johnny Rotten and Liam Gallagher. He's up there with the best. Oasis got so big so fast. Liam didn't know the rules about growing up in the music industry. That was an advantage because he never got corrupted by it. He refused to lick anyone's a***.

One minute, Liam was on the dole queue, the next he was a multi-millionaire rock idol. He missed out the weary slog in the middle most other artists have to face. But Noel is a genius. As the years roll on, I think he gets more and more underrated. He doesn't get enough credit. Some people think Oasis are not moving music on. But who's really done that? The Beatles. The Rolling Stones. David Bowie. Only a select few. Oasis' songs still define a generation.

best gig

I'M in the minority... I thought Oasis were brilliant at Glastonbury. What was so great about them? I can sum that up in two words - Liam Gallagher. He looked stunning. Nobody has that kind of attitude or sheer presence on a stage. I think that, 10 years from now, Oasis could still be selling out venues the size of Wembley Stadium to 80,000 fans. What's to stop them? They're one of the best live acts on the planet.

best bust up

THEY fight like cat and dog but underneath it all Liam and Noel basically love each other. Despite all the fights they'll always be there for each other. One night I was DJ-ing at my club Death Disco when Liam wanted to talk. I was playing Girls Girls Girls by Motley Crue and couldn't hear what he was saying. So Liam just lifted the needle off the record - mid-song - and had his conversation. The club came to a standstill. You can either take great offence or see it for what it was - a great rock 'n' roll moment. He's a nutter. The public will never get fed up with Liam's antics. You never know what he'll do next.

best songs

I THINK Oasis can go on for another 10 years because their catalogue of songs is so excep-tional. Liam and Noel still have more great albums in them. In terms of new material, it could be said they've gone off the boil. But as Chuck Berry once said: 'How many good songs do you need?' Oasis still have 20 better songs than most other bands. The only danger is Liam and Noel might get fed up and musically take a break from each other. Don't worry, they'll both make great records.

best ever

I'M incredibly proud of having found Oasis. I DJ all over the world with my Death Disco club night. It's amazing appearing in a place such as Dublin and for brickies to come and say: 'You changed my life.' First time they do it you think they're taking the p***. After the 14th time you realise they mean it. Musically, I don't think I'll ever discover another group of the stature of Oasis. They changed the whole landscape of UK rock music.

Robbie's revenge
(Thorsten, 2004/08/24, 13:24 Uhr) ROBBIE WILLIAMS has told how he took revenge on NOEL GALLAGHER for branding him "the fat dancer from Take That."

Before his historic three-night Knebworth residency last year, which smashed Oasis' two-night record, Robbie sent Noel a taunting letter with some pies and dancing shoes.

They were delivered just before Oasis opened their UK tour in Cardiff.

A leak from Robbie's new autobiography Feel, in this week's NME, says: "The letter read: 'Dear Mr N Gallagher, you said two nights at Knebworth is history. Well, I guess three is just greedy. Yours, Rob.

"PS: Finding it difficult to find adequate support for my show. What are you doing on the 1st and 2nd? Oh, and the 3rd?"

Robbie's book also says of Noel's brother LIAM: "We used to do sh*tloads of charlie and sing 'Sgt Pepper' to each other."

---

ROB LOOKS BACK IN ANGER AT OASIS

Oh, dear.

It looks like the truce between Robbie Williams and the Gallagher brothers is over.

In his forthcoming autobiography, Feel, Robbie spills the beans on his relationship with the Oasis stars, revealing how he took cocaine with Liam and wrote a damning letter to Noel.

He says: "I went from Noel's mate to him keeping his distance and me being mates with Liam.

"For a while, it felt great. Liam and I just used to do sh**loads of charlie and sing Sgt Pepper to each other. But Liam was really paranoid about everything. It's dreadfully sad for him."

Not long after that, Robbie felt they started to shun him, as it was no longer cool hanging out with the "screwed-up one from Take That".

Says Robbie: "It wound me up because I really loved them and admired them for a while."

The 30-year-old star claims that while Liam finally decided to end their feud, Noel refused to, because he "absolutely hates me".

So Robbie wrote him a letter, complete with a stinging PS alluding to Rob's record-breaking three nights at Knebworth...

"PS: Finding it difficult to find adequate support for the show. What are you doing on the 1st and 2nd? Oh, and the 3rd?"

Looks like it's over to you, boys.

Oasis wanted for film score
(Thorsten, 2004/08/22, 16:56 Uhr) A cousin of Noel and Liam Gallagher today appealed for the Oasis stars to consider writing the music score for a £14 million (20 million euro) movie being filmed in Ireland next year.

Fintan Cullen Gallagher is finding actors, crew and music for Lang Syne Films' latest production based on one of Ireland's most popular ballads, The Green Fields of France.

Mr Cullen Gallagher said: "We have been finding it difficult to get in contact with Liam and Noel. But we would like to discuss the possibility of Noel writing the score and maybe making a cameo appearance as it would give it the height of international flavour if Noel gets involved."

He added: "I only met the pair once and we chatted but they hardly know me. I thought it might be something they might be interested in as it includes the UK and Ireland and they are of Irish descent.

"We have made many attempts to get the boys on the phone to discuss the possibility of working together on this great film project, several contacts with the Gallaghers' record company and the boys' management has proved unsuccessful to date."

The script, which was written by Ned Stuart of the US production company Lang Syne Films, centres around Willie McBride, the 19-year-old soldier whose death in the First World War was immortalised in Eric Bogle's ballad, The Green Fields of France.

Stuart fictionalised the life of Private McBride for the screen adaptation, called The Last Parade, but has tried to keep it historically accurate.

In the script Private McBride is a boxer who joins the army in Enniskillen before he meets his death on the war fields in France.

Mr Cullen Gallagher said all of the film crew - from make-up artists to camera operators - were being sourced in Ireland.

Irish actor Chris Feeney, who is being considered for a main role in the production, was instrumental in bringing the film to Ireland.

Feeney met the film company owner at an airport several years ago and has worked with him over the production of the project since.

X-clusive: Roses And Oasis Offered Carling 2005?
(Thorsten, 2004/08/17, 12:44 Uhr) Vince Power from uber music promoter Mean Fiddler has been talking to Xfm about his dream line up for the Carling Weekend: Leeds and Reading Festival, and plans to expand Glastonbury next year.

As the upcoming Carling Weekender goes from strength to strength, with the Reading leg of the event selling out well in advance Mean Fiddler's Vince Power has been talking about the event.

"Reading in the last couple of years has sold out very, very quickly. We've been sold out for three months now. We've noticed, in the last three years at least, a real appetite for live music again and Reading is all about live music, and also very much about the bands that are around at the time."

As for Power's dream line up for the event, some of his choices seem a little tough to realise, one being permanently disbanded, and another seemingly destined never to reunite.

"That's the prize question isn't it?" he said, "You'd have to have the Clash, and I'd love to have Oasis again they were great at Reading. But my personal choices wouldn't really be 'Reading' bands, they'd definitely be money losers.

"It'd be nice to get the Stone Roses back together," he continued. Reminded of Ian Brown's recent announcement that he'd never reform the band, Power laughed, "That's almost like saying 'How much?' Hopefully he's listening; it might put the idea in his head."

The Mean Fiddler has also been closely tied in with organising Glastonbury for the past four years, and (despite some occasional differences of opinion between Glasto founder Michael Eavis) the festival has been going from strength to strength

"Glastonbury's a great event and this year was very successful," Power continued, "Apart from the weather and even that wasn't that bad. It [the relationship between Mean Fiddler and Eavis] has been a marriage of convenience more than love, but we're getting there and it gets better every year. We're working on it, and it's a festival to be proud of. Its an institution Glastonbury, it's such a big festival and a big thing in people's minds."

As for the much discussed expansion of the event's size for 2005, Power wasn't definite, but revealed Mean Fiddler hopes to increase the ticket numbers.

"I'd have to check, but I think we're going for a capacity increase, he explained, "Probably by about 15,000 which would take it up to 130,000... if we get it."

Robbie's Angels tops list of No 1 should-have-beens
(Thorsten, 2004/08/13, 14:02 Uhr) Robbie Williams' Angels has come top of a list of songs which should have made it to number one - but never did.

The song, written with former collaborator Guy Chambers, remains one of the ex-Take That singer's most popular tunes.

Released in December 1997, the ballad only got to number four while the top slot was taken by children's favourite The Teletubbies Say Eh-Oh!

Music fans have compiled a list of 50 songs which should have made it to the top of the UK charts but failed.

Stars who were unfairly denied a number one include pop queen Madonna, rockers Bon Jovi and Oasis.

The Guns n' Roses classic Sweet Child O' Mine became a rock anthem following its release in 1988.

But the classic, which takes 20th place in the poll for TV music channel VH1, only made it to 24th place in the UK Chart.

Other songs which should have made it to number one but didn't include U2 ballad With or Without You. It only reached number four in 1987.

A-Ha's Take on Me, which reached number two but was denied a number one by David Bowie and Mick Jagger's Dancing in the Street, is also on the list.

Queen's I Want to Break Free, which got to number three when the number one was Hello by Lionel Richie, also makes it into the poll.

Michael Jackson's Thriller, which went to number 10, takes ninth place in the poll alongside the troubled star's Smooth Criminal, which peaked at number eight.

Others in the list are Madonna's Ray of Light - which reached number two in 1998 and was beaten to number one by All Saints' Under the Bridge/Lady Marmalade; and Bon Jovi's Livin on a Prayer, which reached number four in 1986, when Every Loser Wins by ex-EastEnders star Nick Berry claimed number one.

The Oasis hit Wonderwall, which reached number two and was denied the number one by Robson and Jerome's I Believe/Up on the Roof and Queen's Radio Ga Ga, which reached number two and was denied number one by Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax, should have also made the top slot, according to music fans.

Nearly 30,000 votes were cast for the poll for VH1, which is showing its list of the best number ones this weekend.

(Thorsten, 2004/08/11, 15:15 Uhr) A star-studded audience turned out in force to see IAN BROWN perform an exclusive secret gig in LONDON last night (August 10).

Members of the The Coral, South,Cornershop, Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals and Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri were also in the audience at the Hospital club in Covent Garden.

Ganz genau: Mad for it - Oasis sind wieder da.

Was folgte, waren wilde Gerüchte und Spekulationen. Noel spreche (mal wieder) nicht mehr mit seinem kleinen Bruder Liam, der wiederum seine eigene Superband mit dem Ex-Gitarristen der Stone Roses, John Squire, und George Harrisons Sohn Dhani gründe wolle. Less noise, more confusion.

Liam Gallagher says Oasis sticking together
(Thorsten, 2004/08/05, 14:03 Uhr) Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher and quashed rumours the band set to split.

Rumours of a rift have been circulating since the band played a widely-panned set at the Glastonbury Festival in June, with their performance even being labelled "a bit disappointing" by the event's organiser Michael Eavis.

Liam dismisses talk of an imminent parting of ways. He said: "Oasis are rocking. Every band has the odd bust-up and we sacked our drummer, but that's no big deal. It happens. But we are strong and ready to take on the world."

Legendary 'Help!' charity album gets new lease of life
(Thorsten, 2004/08/03, 23:23 Uhr) FRESH 'HELP!'

The legendary 'HELP' album is set for a new digital lease of life.

Recorded and released in one week in September 1995, 'Help' was put together by the War Child charity to raise money for the victims of the war in the former Yugoslavia.

It featured exclusive material from artists like Radiohead, Manic Street Preachers, Orbital and Oasis, and became the fastest-ever Number One hit in UK music history.

Now, the album is to be reissued digitally to mark the launch of new charity download service warchildmusic.com.

All 20 tracks plus artwork will be available for £3.50, with individual tracks for just 99p, when the site launches on Monday (August 9). Brand new music will be available in the coming months, and all profits will go to helping children in the world's most troubled regions.

Site director James Topham said: "Every track - and we're after everything from covers to acoustic versions, live recordings, alternative mixes, remixes or simply unreleased tunes - will be exclusive to Warchild Music. This is an ongoing project which we're sure will quickly become essential for artists and fans alike. Although the profits are going to charity, the site is all about music."

The tracklisting for 'Help' is:

Gallagher delighted by Stone Roses resurrection
(Thorsten, 2004/08/01, 21:31 Uhr) Rocker Ian Brown has delighted Oasis singer Noel Gallagher by playing a full set of Stone Roses songs for the first time in almost ten years last Sunday night (25 July 2004).

Gallagher - who will feature on Brown's next single 'Keep What You Got' - was thrilled by the performance at Claremount Landscape Garden National Trust park in Surrey, England.

The veteran star hired members of tribute band Fools Gold and played an hour of classics, including 'I Wanna Be Adored', 'Fools Gold' and 'Waterfall'.

One fan at the show says, "I wasn't old enough to see the Stone Roses and I've seen loads of tribute bands, but this is the closest anyone will ever get to seeing the real thing."

The Stone Roses split in 1996.
