Gem performs with Paul Weller

As many of you may already know, the Modfather Paul Weller picked up the Godlike Genius Award at last week's NME Awards. No argument from us; the guy is a legend. No one would agree with us more than Noel and Gem.

Noel recorded a special message for the awards and Gem was asked by Paul to join him on stage to perform as part of his band playing guitar and providing backing vocals.

If you're not in the UK or didn't catch the TV broadcast you may have missed the guys so we decided we'd go trawling the interwebs to find you the footage:

Liam Gallagher: "Oasis split has helped Manchester City"

Singer thinks the band and football club's fortunes are linked

Liam Gallagher has joked that the fortunes of Oasis and his beloved Manchester City football team are linked.

The singer pointed out that the team seemed to do badly when the band were at their peak - and now that Oasis have split things look much better on the pitch.

"When Oasis were doing well, City were doing shit," Gallagher told the Daily Mirror. "But now we've split, City are doing good. Maybe there's some good times ahead with City, and that'll take the pain of the band splitting off a bit."

Manchester City romped to a 4-2 away win against Chelsea on Saturday (February 27), while Gallagher is expected to make his musical comeback with former Oasis members later this year.

Noel Gallagher: Update

NOEL GALLAGHER is consulting his lawyers over an article in today's News of the World attributing derogative remarks about his former band members to the Oasis songwriter. Yet again this tawdry tabloid is fabricating lies about ex-members of Oasis, and has clearly sunk to new depths this time.

In today's paper they write that Noel has made derogatory comments about Liam's new band (which they still insist on referring to as Oasis, another of their many errors). The claims made in the article and the quotes attributed to Noel are simply untrue. What's more, we have learned that the article was written by the same hack journalist who brought fans the 'exclusive' that Liam had recruited a female bass player recently. The woman named in that article, who's actually a fan website editor, embarrassed the newspaper with a categorical denial within hours of the story surfacing.

Update:

On Sunday one of the UK tabloids carried a story that Noel made derogatory comments about Liam's new band. The claims made in the article and the quotes attributed to Noel were untrue. Noel has never made any comment regarding Liam's new band. The newspaper concerned has subsequently withdrawn the story and apologised to Noel for their error.

Oasis man hits back at Brit Awards host over 'knobhead' gag

Liam Gallagher has hit back at Brit Awards 2010 host Peter Kay for calling him a "knobhead" at last night's (February 16) ceremony.

Kay criticised Gallagher after he had left the stage following his speech for winning the Brit Album Of 30 Years award for the 1995 Oasis album '(What's The Story) Morning Glory'.

Writing about the comment on his Twitter.com/liamgallagher account, Gallagher chastised the Bolton-born comic for not insulting him to his face.

"Listen up fat fuck," he wrote. "As a real northerner I was brought up 2 say shit 2 people's faces not behind their back. Live forever LG"

Gallagher had an eventful night at the Brits. As well as picking up his award - which he threw into the audience - the singer also gave an insightful backstage interview where he insinuated that somebody else at the awards had had an argument with him. He was then heard saying that he wanted to get "loads of class A drugs" as the interview ended.

Oasis win best album of the past 30 years at the Brits!

Oasis' album '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' won the award for the best album of the past 30 years at last night's Brit Award ceremony at Earl's Court in London. Liam was on hand to pick up the award.

'(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' has sold over 14 million copies worldwide, 4.2 of which are in the UK alone.

The number one album marked the band's first UK number one single with 'Some Might Say' and features live favourites such as 'Roll With It' and 'Champagne Supernova'. It also contains the singles 'Wonderwall' and 'Don't Look Back In Anger'. 'Wonderwall', released in 1995, was the band's 8th single in the space of 18 punch-drunk months that saw the band rise from noisy Manchester lads to the most talked about band in the world. These two songs, amongst so many others, have come to define Noel Gallagher's ability to write stadium-rousing anthems, something anyone who caught the band live can testify to.

The Brit Award category was voted for online by the public. The category was open to the best-selling, 'Best Album' winners from the past 29 Brit Awards to celebrate the Award's 30th birthday this year.

Vatican picks the Beatles and Oasis among its top ten albums

Many would consider them a rather ungodly collection of rockers, Sixties drug-takers and hell-raisers - but they have all been given the holy seal of approval from the Vatican.

Choral music and canticles make up its normal areas of interest but the Vatican has extended its musical tastes to issue a list of the top ten pop and rock albums of all time.

The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Oasis are among the British artists featured in the chart in the the Holy See's newspaper.

L'Osservatore Romano, said the 10 albums were the perfect listening material for anyone who found themselves marooned on a desert island.

The paper said its "semi-serious" list including the likes of Michael Jackson, U2 and Carlos Santana was offered as an alternative to the cheesy tunes that feature at the San Remo festival in Liguria, in north-eastern Italy, which starts tomorrow.

Aside from British and American artists, the only other nationality to be represented in the list was Ireland, with U2's Achtung Baby, released in 1991. No Italian groups or singers appeared in the top ten.

L'Osservatore Romano wrote in an editorial yesterday (Sunday): "A little handbook of musical resistance could be useful during this time of the year in which, in addition to having put up with the rigours of winter, we have to endure a rising tide of musical festivals.

"So as not to be totally overwhelmed, and to remember that an alternative exists, our modest guide can point you on the road to good music."

The newspaper admitted that identifying the 10 best albums in the history of pop music was not "easy" and inevitably the choice might seem "partial".

Until recently the staid and stuffy journal of record for goings-on at the Vatican, L'Osservatore Romano has recently tried to strike a more contemporary tone, commenting on everything from the Harry Potter books and films to The Simpsons and James Cameron's blockbuster Avatar, which it called overly-sentimental and derivative.

Gericht will Gallagher nicht

Nachdem Ex-Oasis Frontmann Noel Gallagher vor zwei Tagen verkündete, extra vor Gericht erscheinen zu wollen, um gegen seinen Rippenbrecher Sullivan auszusagen, darf er jetzt doch nicht vor den Richter treten. Sein kürzlich gestellter Antrag, persönlich seine Aussage vor dem Gericht in Kanada ablegen zu wollen, wurde abgelehnt.

Staatsanwältin Ruth Kleinhenz begründete das plötzliche Ablehnen des Antrags auf thestar.com damit, dass die pure Anwesenheit des Ex-Oasis-Sängers einen wahrscheinlich hohen Medienrummel auslöse und es dadurch unnötig zu Problemen kommen könnte.
Nach dem ewigen Hin und Her wird nun endlich ein Termin für den Prozess gesucht und hoffentlich auch gefunden, ohne Rücksicht auf Noel, der sich nun voll und ganz seiner Solokarriere widmen kann.

Im Herbst 2008 stürmte der Unternehmer David Sullivan bei einem Auftritt in Toronto auf die Bühne und brach Noel drei Rippen. Nach dem Zwischenfall musste Oasis fünf Konzerte absagen. Ex-Oasis-Frontmann Noel Gallagher hat angekündigt, bei dem Prozess gegen seinen Rippenbrecher Danny Sullivan persönlich vor Ort sein zu wollen. Die kanadische Staatsanwältin Ruth Kleinhenz teilte dem Gerichtshof in Ontario mit, dass Gallagher von dem Recht Gebrauch machen wolle, persönlich vor Ort seine Zeugenaussage zu Papier zu bringen. Daraufhin beschwerte sich der Verteidiger des Angeklagten Sullivan. Man solle Gallaghers Anfrage fallen lassen, damit er nicht den Verhandlungsverlauf durch seine Anwesenheit beeinflussen könne. Diese Beschwerde wurde aber abgewiesen. Nun wird ein Termin gesucht, an dem Gallagher Zeit hat, damit er persönlich vor Gericht stehen darf.

Liam Gallagher: "Oasis war ein scheiß Name!"

Schon im Juli will Liam Gallagher ein Album mit seiner neuen, alten Band rausbringen. Sich von dem Namen Oasis zu trennen, bereitet ihm keinerlei Probleme.

"Ich bin froh, den Namen nur noch von hinten sehen zu müssen!"

Noch im Dezember vergangenen Jahres sagte Liam er könne sich vorstellen, seine neuen Songs unter dem Namen "Oasis" zu veröffentlichen. Das dementierte er nun wehement und redete Klartext. In einem Interview gab das ewige Lästermaul zu, dass er den Bandnamen Oasis schon immer doof fand und seine neue Truppe definitiv unter einem anderen Namen auftreten wird.

"Nein, es wird nicht Oasis sein, das war sowieso ein scheiß Name. Ich bin froh ihn nur noch von hinten sehen zu müssen!"

Mit dem neuen Namen wollte Liam aber partout nicht rausrücken. Er sagte lediglich:

"Es gibt da einen Namen, den wir in Erwägung ziehen, aber im Moment konzentrieren wir uns einfach auf die Musik und gucken, wie's läuft."

Auch sein Bruder, Noel Gallagher, ist derweil nicht untätig und wird im März seinen ersten post Oasis Gig spielen. Wir dürfen gespannt sein, was man von den Gallagher Brüdern in Zukunft auf die Ohren bekommen wird.

Noel Gallagher announces first post-Oasis solo gigs

Plus Arctic monkeys, Them Crooked Vultures for Teenage Cancer Trust gigs

Noel Gallagher is set to play his first post-Oasis gigs in March, for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The guitarist will join Arctic Monkeys, Them Crooked Vultures, a reformed Suede, The Who, Depeche Mode and JLS on the line-ups for the charity gigs. They will take place at the London Royal Albert Hall from February 17.

The Specials will also join the run play this year's Shockwaves NME Awards Big Gig as part of the Teenage Cancer Trust's concerts.

Gallagher will play two gigs at the venue, on March 25 and 26. The Who's Roger Daltrey, whose band play their gig for the series on March 30, told NME.COM that the shows would be the guitarist's only live dates of 2010. For the rest of the line-up dates see below.

It was announced last month that Suede would be reforming for their Teenage Cancer Trust show - without guitarist Bernard Butler.

In addition to the gigs a comedy night will take place at the venue as part of the series on March 23. The Mighty Boosh's Noel Fielding, Jimmy Carr and Rhod Gilbert will appear.

Liam Gallagher: "My post-Oasis album will be out by July"

Plus singer regrets the band's 'poor' workrate

Liam Gallagher's new band are aiming to release an album by July.

The singer says that his new group - featuring former Oasis bandmates Andy Bell and Gem Archer - had eight songs, and are aiming to head into the studio soon.

"A lot of these songs I wrote before the band [Oasis] split up," Gallagher told XFM. "I mean, there's a few new ones on there that are coming out now."

He added: "We're going in [the studio] in April with a producer, we're going to do three songs with him and if he doesn't balls it up and we don't balls it up then we'll go in and do the whole album with him."

Gallagher suggested he was keen to get on with the new, still nameless group - saying he regretted the fact that Oasis only made seven albums in the 16 years they had a record deal. He called the amount of music Oasis' put out in their career "poor", and chastised the band for taking so long to produce new material.

"Seven albums for Oasis is not good, I don't think. We've been going 18 years, 16 years or whatever and all we've done is seven albums. Ian Brown's on his seventh solo album. I just think it's poor, really," Gallagher said.

"I'm not going to beat myself up about it, I think we should have made better, bigger albums. Or more albums. Having like four or five years off is just no good," he added. "Obviously NoelGallagher) wanted a bit of time off and we don't. The band split in August - we was in the studio in November 'cos we're mad for it."

Elsewhere in the interview, Gallagher said he wants to appear on 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here or Total Wipeout - but only if no other contestants are involved.

"I'd like to do all that shit," he said, before adding that Total Wipeout is his favourite reality TV programme of the moment. "They do it in Argentina. I'd love to do it on my jaxy, with no one about."

Zur Vorstellung ihres siebten und letzten Albums "Dig Out Your Soul" präsentieren die vier Brit-Popper von Oasis im August 2008 das ganz besonders private Konzert "Standing On The Edge Of The Noise" in ihrem Proberaum in den Black Island Studios in London.

Nur ein Jahr später, am 28. August 2009, löst sich die erfolgreiche britische Popband auf. Ein Grund mehr für neoMusic mit den Fans in Erinnerungen zu schwelgen.

Der typische Oasis-Sound

Etwas fetziger geht es mit "Supersonic", einem sehr alten Titel aus dem Jahr 1994, weiter. Mit diesem Song schafften sie das erste Mal eine Platzierung in den britischen Singlecharts.

Als einer der langhaltigsten Ohrwürmer und größten Hits der Brit-Popper darf "Don't Look Back In Anger" natürlich nicht fehlen. Die Fans werden auch hier nicht enttäuscht, der Superhit aus dem Jahr 1996 wird wie erwartet mit melodischen Gitarrenklängen zu einem Highlight der Show. Als Konzertabschluss ist "Falling Down" sehr gut gewählt. Er ist dem typischen Oasis-Sound treu und bleibt im Ohr.

Louise Davies not playing bass for Gallagher

Oasis fan Louise Davies has denied tabloid claims she is to join Liam Gallagher's new band.

A newspaper report on Saturday (January 9) implied that Davies, who runs Oasis fan site Stopcryingyourheartout.com, had been recruited to play bass in the band.

Writing on Stopcryingyourheartout.com, Davies denied the story, saying: "A story has appeared today in the News Of The World falsely claiming that I'm joining Liam Gallagher's new band, and to start recording later this month at Abbey Road studios. Where they get there information from is beyond me."

Gallagher has previously confirmed that he is to work on new material with former Oasis bandmates Gem Archer, Andy Bell, Jay Darlington and Chris Sharrock, though the band will be joined by an as-yet-unnamed bassist.

Modfather says he's not picking sides

Paul Weller has said that he believes that Oasis splitting has been a good thing - and told NME.COM that he would be happy to work with both Noel and Liam Gallagher.

The Jam's former frontman said that he liked both the Gallaghers "equally" and would not pick sides because of the split.

"Creatively, I think the Oasis split is going to be good thing," he said. "There's going to be some great things to come from both of them in the future. I'd definitely be up for collaborating with Liam and with Noel. I love them both equally, and think they're both extremely talented in their own ways."

Weller is set to return with his own album in the spring which features contributions from My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields. He will also play a residency at London's Royal Albert Hall in April.

Liam Gallagher dreht Band-Doku

Liam Gallagher macht eine Dokumentation über seine neue Band.

Der ehemalige Oasis-Frontmann hat gemeinsam mit seinen alten Bandkollegen - mit Ausnahme von Bruder Noel Gallagher - eine neue Gruppe gegründet und will den Schaffensprozess ihres neuen Albums auf Film festhalten.

Ein Insider verrät, was den Rockstar dazu veranlasste: "Liam hat die Nase voll davon, dass alle glauben, dass Noel das Gehirn der Gruppe war. Dadurch, dass er die Studio-Sessions filmt, können die Fans sehen, wie hart er arbeitet und wie stark er an dem kreativen Prozess beteiligt ist. Liam nimmt seinen Job sehr ernst und scheut sich nicht, die Kameras zu benutzen, um das zu beweisen."

Was er mit dem Endprodukt anstellen will, weiß der Brite noch nicht so genau. Er hofft jedoch, dass er es gemeinsam mit der neuen Platte vermarkten kann, so der Insider gegenüber der 'Daily Star'-Zeitung.

Im August kam es zwischen Liam und seinem Bruder Noel, dem damaligen Gitarristen von Oasis, zum Eklat, woraufhin sich die erfolgreiche Brit-Rockband auflöste. Beide Brüder versprachen, auch ohne einander weiterhin Musik machen zu wollen.

Noel (42) will im Gegensatz zu Liam (37) auf Solopfaden wandeln. Der jüngere der beiden Brüder hat sich mit den alten Mitgliedern von Oasis Gem Archer, Andy Bell und Chris Sharrock zusammengetan. Einen neuen Namen haben die vier Rocker sich bisher nicht überlegt, gab Liam vor kurzem preis. "Wir haben uns ein paar Namen überlegt, aber soweit hat uns nichts gefallen, also haben wir das erst mal hinten angestellt", meint er dazu. "Aber die Leute werden natürlich denken: 'Oh, sie sind noch immer Oasis.' Das Leben ist zu kurz, um sich über diesen Scheiß Gedanken zu machen, aber man wird sich immer als Liam von Oasis an mich erinnern. Aber wir werden ja sehen, was passiert, wenn das Album fertig ist."

Oasis 2.0 kommt mit neuem Album

Aus Oasis wird Oasis 2.0 - unter diesem Namen möchte Liam Gallagher im Juli 2010 das erste Album nach der Ära Noel veröffentlichen. Im Grunde wird alles anders, während alles beim Alten bleibt.

Im Gespräch mit einem italienischen Radiosender erklärte Liam Gallagher, dass seine Band bereits drei neue Songs fertig hätte, die (natürlich) absolut großartig seien. Nach dem Ausstieg von Bruder Noel arbeitet Oasis nun unter dem Namen Oasis 2.0 weiter. Nächstes Jahr, vorgesehen ist Juli, soll dann das "erste" Album der "neuen" Band in den Regalen stehen.

Oasis 2.0 besteht im Grunde aus der alten Formation. Mit ins Studio werden jedoch auch die früheren Live-Musiker von Oasis geholt: Jay Darlington und Chris Sharrock. Den Sound des neuen Materials beschreibt Liam wie folgt: "Es gibt keine neue Richtung. Wir machen keinen Raggae oder Rap. Es hat vielleicht ein bisschen mehr Energie und Frische. Aber es wird nicht viel anders sein."

Neben dem Lead-Gitarristen Andy Bell, mit dem Liam bereits in Prä-Oasis-Zeiten musizierte, und Rhythmusgitarrist Gem Archer werden die ehemaligen Oasis-Live-Musiker Chris Sharrock und Jay Darlington an Drums und Keyboards unterstützen. Zur bisher unbekannten Person am Bass verkündete der Brite nur: "Wir haben einen neuen Bassisten. Er ist mega!". Die Arbeit an neuem Material werde demnächst beginnen.

Auch die Namenssuche mache keine Fortschritte, erklärte Gallagher gegenüber Sky News. "Wir stecken fest." Momentan arbeitet die Band an neuem Material. Seinem Bruder Noel hinterließ Liam Gallagher wie gewohnt eine kurze Nachricht via TV: "Falls ihr ihn trefft, bestellt ihm schöne Grüße von mir. Viel Glück, Kumpel, wir sehen uns in der nächsten Welt. Singer speaks out at the Manchester launch of his clothing line

Liam Gallagher has spoken out about his love for his brother and former Oasis bandmate Noel.

Talking at the launch of his Pretty Green clothing line at the Manchester branch of Selfridge's today (December 2), the singer revealed his feelings towards Noel, despite previously saying that he had no interest in speaking to him again.

"He's doing his thing, we're doing our thing, I wish him all the best," Liam told Sky News. "I don't wish him any bad, I'm his brother. I love him to death." He added, but did warn Noel by saying "Don't release it [Noel's solo album] the same day, 'cos we'll ave ya."

Asked whether he had a message to pass onto his brother, Liam cheekily said: "Good luck mate - see you in the next world. Don't be late!"

As previously reported, Liam said his new band "May still be called Oasis", but he did reveal that they had been thinking of a new name.

"We're sorta going through the mill of getting a new name, nothings sticking, so we've drawn the line on the names at the moment." He explained. "People are still gonna go 'Its still Oasis, but its not Oasis without Noel' - life's too short to be arsing about with what people think and that. We'll see what happens, we're concentrating on the music at the moment." He added.

As well as promoting his new clothing line, Liam recently announced that his new band had "Got a bit of studio time booked after Christmas".
